HISTORY

 

Year Built: 1886

Address: 19 Immanuel Way, Light Pass, South Australia 5355

 

The Immanuel Lutheran Church at Light Pass has published a very brief history, as follows.

 

1846 Congregation formed by pastor A Kavel.
School built, also used for worship.

1850 Church built with pug walls and straw roof.

1857 First manse built.

1859 First bell dedicated.

1860 Twenty-five dissident families form Strait Gate congregation.

1876 Lemke pipe organ installed.

1886 New church built with stone walls and iron roof.

1909 School closed and Sunday School begun.

1930 Church tower built for new bell.

1943 Parish paper launched.

1944 Young People’s Society formed.

1947 Ladies Guild established.

1950 Postponed centenary celebrations held.
Church extensively renovated.
Kavel Hall dedicated.

1954 Present manse built.

1962 Davis and Laurie pipe organ installed.

1971 New Sunday School rooms built.

1989 Manse renovated and extended.

1996 150th anniversary celebrations.
Comprehensive history published.

 

The church’s first pastor was A. L. C. Kavel, 1846 – 1857.

The present pastor is Mathew Ker.
