The Railway Goods Shed dates from 1890, and was at the end point of the Warrnambool to Port Fairy line. In its time the railway was an important form of transport to and from Port Fairy. The station was closed in the 1970s and the entire railway infrastructure removed, apart from this shed, and the station master’s residence which is on a separate title.

The rail line originally continued down to the wharf to pick up fish for the Melbourne markets.
