Claimed to be Victoria’s oldest continuously licensed hotel (from 1844). Note the primitive pine doors, the hand adzed timber in the hallway, the mirror advertisements in the bar, the tiny dormered bedroom windows, and the section left unfinished when the workmen downed their tools to join in the rush for gold at Ballarat. In the yard, ‘Rolf Boldrewood’ used to hold sales of horses from his ‘Squattlesea Mere’ run.
