Converted from a Horse Bazaar run by the Albion Hotel next door (now the Victoria (#23)), the Orderly Room was erected ca 1896. It consisted of a Drill Hall, a Reading Room, and Drill Instructor’s Quarters. At the rear of the main building was a gun room. The Borough Council subsequently purchased the Orderly Room for recreation purposes, but it has now passed into private hands.

An old plaque gives the 1874 date, and also the date 1885 designated ‘Garrison Use’.
