THE FIRE STATION

FireStation

Walhalla was devastated by a fire in 1988 which began in a draper’s shop. As a result the Shire Council voted to renovate a steam-driven fire engine and provide accommodation and a water supply for it.

The original fire station was built in 1901 to house the equipment of the newly formed 12-man Fire Brigade. It was built to straddle Stringer’s Creek, because no other suitable land was available.

The present Fire Station is a replica of the original, and was built in 1965.
