MINER’S STONE COTTAGE

OldMinersCottage

If we follow the Right Branch of Stringer’s Creek beyond Windsor House, bypassing the Richmond and Gloz building, we soon come to a pretty cul-de-sac with the stream on one side, and this old Miner’s Stone Cottage on the other. It is now overgrown and rather dilapidated, but displays its early stone construction with a certain charm. The cottage was built in1869, and is the town’s only surviving stone building.

A nearby historical sign gives some back-ground information. The plaque contains an old photograph of the Right Branch of Stringer’s Creek, showing Windsor House at centre, and the Miner’s Stone Cottage at centre top.
