INTRODUCTION

At age 70, after years of sedentary life in front of my computer, I have discovered the joy of walking!

It all began with an adventure safari in the Kimberley from which I inherited a pair of walking shoes and a backpack.  Later I did a little local walking in preparation for a hike up Hollow Mountain in the Grampians.   Now I am discovering delightful valleys and views in the Adelaide Hills, close to where I live. A photographic record of these walks can be found at

I have also been interested in walking in rather more exotic (or at least far-away) places. This site is a collection of photographic records of such walks. Since there is no sense of ‘completeness’ in this collection, I have simply chosen the ‘best’ walks to record. Some are hard, some are easy; the test for inclusion here is : are they photogenic and interesting?

On my treks, I wear good walking shoes and a sun hat, I take my backpack with water, snacks, waterproof jacket, my pedometer, mobile phone, and trusty camera.

The times given will be seen as too long by younger, fitter walkers, but they will serve as a guide.  The distances given are only approximate, being gauged from my pedometer. Again, these will serve as a guide.

You are welcome to use any of my photos that appear on this site. Acknowledgment of the source and a link to this site would be appreciated.

For those walking in the Blue Mountains, the NSW National Parks and Wildlife service puts out an inexpensive set of Walking Track Guides. I also found very helpful the comprehensive book Blue Mountains Best Bushwalks by Veechi Stuart (Woodslane).

Similarly, Parks Victoria have published three very useful pamphlets with walks in The Grampians. Discover Tasmania hs the useful little booklet, 60 Great Short Walks.

I hope you will be encouraged to walk these walks. But if not, just enjoy them with me ... and with no sweat!

You might like to drop me a line if this site has brought back to you past memories, or even if not!
