KIMBERLEY (WA)
Emma Gorge

Return distance : 1.6 km; Time : 1 hour 30 minutes

Emma Gorge is the main scenic highlight of a visit to the El Questro Resort near Kununurra. The walk up the Gorge is quite strenuous. The amount of time taken really depends on how long you wish to spend enjoying the scenery!

The escarpment above the Gorge gives some indication of the scenic delights in store, especially at sunset.

Torrential rains in the area in recent years have left some significant reminders, and done some damage to the Resort.

The track starts off reasonably gently.

The red cliffs tower above us as we negotiate the track up the stream.

There has obviously been a long fossil history in this region.

These deep gorges provide some shelter from the intense Kimberley sunshine.

The colour of these upper pools is amazing ...

Obviously we have reached the Turquoise Pool.

And finally the swimming hole. This is as far as the track goes.

A good opportunity to cool off! The hot temperatures add to the difficulty of a walk like this.

A memorable climb. Now it is time to return to El Questro for a long cool drink.
