SPRINGBROOK (Q)
Natural Arch |
|
Return distance : 1 km; Time : 35 minutes The entry to Natural Arch in the Springbrook National Park is off the Nerang Murwillumbah Raod, about 27 km north of Murwillumbah. It is a very popular tourist destination, and with good reason. The easy, sealed circuit track passes through lush rain forest. If you are lucky you may see a bush turkey. The area contains dense sub-tropical rain forest, so there is a great variety of luxuriant vegetation to admire. It is often wet! The path crosses the mountain-fed waters of Cave Creek. Life becomes interesting when the creek forms a waterfall, which plunges into a gaping hole, disappearing into the mysterious depths of a dark cavern. Further down, we find the bottom of the fall, the water plunging into a pool below the Natural Arch. The water then emerges as a sparkling stream ... ... which flows into the Nerang River and down the Numinbah Valley. Australia has so many wonderful walks!
