There are three tracks here: the Wine Shanty Track to the left, the Chambers Gully Track to the right, and an unsigned track straight ahead which we take. Visible down the hill in the distance is the Keir Ruin.
This four roomed house was named after a farm manager for Sir Samuel Davenport, and was abandoned in the early 1900s. It has a good position, but is definitely one for the handyman!
A little beyond the farm house we come to this patch of gum trees, grown and harvested especially to feed the koalas in the Wildlife Park. It is from here that the Nursery Loop gets its name.
The track veers to the right and shortly meets the Gunbower Track. (Gunbower is actually a small Murray River town in Victoria.) At this point we turn right.
This track climbs steadily back up towards the road (below left) before meeting the Chambers Gully track (below right). Many of these trails serve also as fire tracks.
A few more steps brings us back to Gate 6 and the car. |
