Follow the fire track down past the information sign. Before we reach the White Rock Quarry gate there is a left turn marked with a Heysen Trail sign. There follows a long steep climb up a sometimes scrabbly track on the other side of the valley, passing an old stone cottage(?) wall.
Even the weeds have a beauty of their own ...
There are various side-tracks, particularly the Rockdale Hill track and the (Hosnell) Main Valley Track on the right. However, the main track finally joins up to the end of Coach Road which we follow to the left under the power lines. There are some wonderful distant views of the plains from here – we are on the top of the world!
Now follow back along eastern Coach Road (still climbing to the end), left onto Ridge Road running down into Woods Hill Rd, past the kindergarten and Ashton Cold Store, and then a left turn to reach the car. This last stretch of road is not very pedestrian – friendly. |
