Near the join of Springs Road and the Bald Hills Road, just south of the town of Mount Barker, we find the delightful Laratinga Wetlands. The Mount Barker Council has a website with detailed information:

There are three designated walking trails, all short and easy. There are also toilet facilities near Bald Hills Road.


The lake system is extensive and surrounded by native bush planting.

Whichever way one looks there are beautiful water views.

Probably the best place to view the water birds is from one of the boardwalks.

There are several helpful and attractive information boards to help in identifying the birds ...

... but there is nothing as good as viewing the actual birds themselves!
Camera and binnoculars are a ‘must’ for this walk.

The name ‘Laratinga’ is derived from the Aboriginal Lartingga-parri meaning ‘flooding land creek’.
