Mt George Conservation Park is a lesser known park which stretches between the Piccadilly Golf Course and the South-Eastern Freeway near Bridgewater. It contains the 520 metre Mt George summit, and the Heysen Trail passes through it. There is a pleasant picnic area alongside a dammed stretch of water, and the park contains many birds and native plants. The area is said to have an interesting history of Aboriginal occupation and European settlement, but I have seen little evidence of this.
The ‘Davenport Rd’ entry at top left is a bit of a mystery: it appears as just a track across the golf course. |
