Today we visit Hans Heysens old home, The Cedars, near the town of Hahndorf. We turn off the Freeway at the Hahndorf exit, and follow the signs up the Ambleside Road. There is easy parking at The Cedars. There is no charge to visit the gallery at the entrance, where there is an extensive range of paintings and memorabilia relating to Hans Heysen and his daughter Nora. Of special interest is the sewing desk, subject of a famous Heysen painting.
We take the paid tour of the old house and surrounding grounds. This includes a visit to Heysens outdoor studio, ... ... and a tour through the house itself. It is also possible to walk the grounds and see the locations from where Heysen painted some of his gum tree scenes. A rest is then in order! |
