Todays outing encompasses the Adelaide Bicentennial Conservatory and the National Wine Centre. There is easy parking off Hackney Road. We make our way across to the Conservatory, a classic design, built as a double cone half buried in the ground. There is an entrance fee. Inside, easy paths and boardwalks take the visitor through a variety of lush tropical growth. From time to time jets of fine spray issue from vents in the roof very pleasant on a hot day! We next take a short walk south to the National Wine Centre. This interesting construction is built to resemble a wine barrel. Entry is free. There is a variety of exhibits, showing the different types of wine, and how wine is made. Wine tatsing is available for a charge. Of special interest is an interactive display which allows you various choices in making your own wine. With luck you may finish up with a brew better than vinegar! By now it is lunchtime and we take the bus to one of our favourite eating spots, The Walkers Arms for a tasty buffet meal. |
