 It is not infrequently that the subjects ‘mathematics’ and ‘art’ overlap. It is our intention here to investigate some of these occurrences. So this site might easily have been given the title ‘The Mathematics of Art’ or ‘Mathematics and Art’ or some such.The starting point for each of these chapters is a Java applet. I have some small knowledge of programming, but these applets are written by ‘real’ programmers. I gratefully acknowledge their work and ownership, and details of each appear in the relevant chapter. I wish to particularly thank Bob Allanson and Bill Beaumont who have been readily forthcoming with help concerning the technicalities and writing of the Java applets.
