The High Altar contains the quartz shrine, designed by Josef and Michael Amberg in 1967 for the skull relics of the saints Kilian, Kolonat and Totnan. The saints stand in place. Above is the figure of the Risen Christ, stepping forward with outstretched arms. An army of angels above and the 24 elders below pay homage to him. Below is the heavenly Jerusalem with the Lamb of God at its centre. Around the choir stand 36 additional saints. This completes our tour.
St Kilian’s Cathedral is unusual, historical and interesting. I hope you have enjoyed visiting it with me.

With one or two (indicated) exceptions, the photographs on this site are all mine. However, almost all the text has been drawn from the excellent Cathedral booklet ‘St Kilian’s Cathedral: Würzburg’ by Schnell and Steiner, and I am indebted to these authors.
