This building was constructed for paint manufacturer H. L. Vosz and Company Limited soon after 1900. It is distinguished by its construction on one and a half levels.

Vosz was Adelaide’s first importer of plate glass. The business passed to two of Vosz’s employees, and in 1904 A. E. Clarkson became manager. The business name was changed to Clarkson Ltd in 1915 due to anti-German feeling during the First World War.
