42. QUEBEC STREET COTTAGE |
||
This derelict little cottage is tucked away in Quebec Street. It looks even worse from the rear. What a history it must have! But surely such a poor little residence would have little to commend it for inclusion in Port Adelaide’s historical record? I was therefore delighted to find that it has been the subject of an archaeological investigation – and one which uncovered some significant history. It was built around 1900 as one of a pair of houses which replaced four former cottages on the property. It is built with corrugated iron walls which would have made for an economical build and unbearable internal summer temperatures! |
