18. CHURCH OF ENGLAND SCHOOL |
||
This two-storey building was erected in 1852. It was originally the Church of England School, and the stone cottage on the south side (towards Cox Street) was the master‘s residence. The land, containing 1.5 acres (0.6 hectares) was originally all church property under a grant from James Atkinson. (The church faced Sackville Street, behind the school. It was replaced by the present St John’s Church in the 1850s in order to cater for the increasing numbers of the congregation.) Photos Credit : Google Maps |
