Captain John Mason, a captain in the Militia, and member of the first Council of the Municipality of Belfast, purchased the land in 1852. He had a timber store and workshop on the site. The two storey house built in 1875 features interesting arched ground floor windows with a fanlight above the front door, The façade is rendered with the side and rear walls of rough dressed bluestone.

The property is in urgent need of repair (2012).
