14. SEAFIELD AND TYNEMOUTH COTTAGES |
||
Captain Lewis Grant, whose barque ‘Socrates’ was wrecked in the bay in 1843, built ‘Seafield’ when he settled in Belfast in 1853. He built the adjacent house ‘Tynemouth’ in 1959 to accommodate a large family, subsequently letting ‘Seafield’ to the Shire, and then ato a cordial manufacturer. A three-roomed skillion cottage of similar date is attached to the perimeter wall. The window set in the southern stone portion of the house shows some nice craftsmanship. |
