Stokes Street

Streetscape

Stokes Street forms one of the few continuous Victorian streetscapes in the town, and is of major significance. With some imagination, we can step back into the 1890s: a dirt road, a horse and cart, children playing out front of this row of dwellings on the northern side of the street.

Beginning at the east end with a row of double-storey terrace houses, this is the only example of such terrace housing in Queenscliff. A succession of almost identical brick and weatherboard single storey houses follows, broken in the centre by a pair of gable ended single storey terrace houses. This now terminates with a typical late nineteenth century double fronted weatherboard house and shop built on the corner.
