11. STREETSCAPE |
||
Stokes Street forms one of the few continuous Victorian streetscapes in the town, and is of major significance. With some imagination, we can step back into the 1890s: a dirt road, a horse and cart, children playing out front of this row of dwellings on the northern side of the street. Beginning at the east end with a row of double-storey terrace houses, this is the only example of such terrace housing in Queenscliff. A succession of almost identical brick and weatherboard single storey houses follows, broken in the centre by a pair of gable ended single storey terrace houses. This now terminates with a typical late nineteenth century double fronted weatherboard house and shop built on the corner.
