23 Church Street

The foundation stone was laid on 16th October 1854 during the incumbency of Archdeacon Thomas Henry Braim. The architect was Nathaniel Billing. The church was erected by local masons at a cost of approximately £7000. Bishop Perry consecrated the church in February 1865, it having taken nine years to wipe out the debt incurred in its construction. Maltese stonemasons completed the tower in 1956. The carving around the doors and windows, and the font, all of Merri stone, are by Walter McGill. The church hall was used as a school until 1874.

The church has a peaceful interior, and there are pleasing stained glass windows at the front, sides (A and B) and rear.
