Return trip : 1 hour, 4 km

FALLS I
  HOGAN

Detailed Map:

The path ascends with an easy grade, and having the stream on the left and the road on the right.  We soon come to what looks like an historic shelter ...

... soon followed by the Upper Car Park, previously known as the Kiosk Car Park when there was a kiosk! There are a number of useful information display boards here where the track starts.

We follow the Main Valley trail which runs up alongside the creek.  Watch out for koalas and various birds.  We may be lucky enough to see a tawny frogmouth or two.

In the early morning, we catch the sun just rising over the range, its rays lighting up the hills.

The reddish rocky escarpments are impressive and enjoyed by rock climbers.

The path is well made and the bridges sturdy, rebuilt after the destructive flood of 2007.  Each bridge is bypassed by a ford for vehicle access.

The best scenery is adjacent to the fall, here viewed from the viewing platform.  Such infrasctructure detracts from the natural feel of the valley, but is probably necessary to cope with the large number of walkers.

Finally we reach our goal: the water fall, but where is the water?!

One would have to say that there is some merit in walking this trail in the middle of a fine day, shortly after rain.

We now retrace our steps to the parking area.
