This building began life as an Apothecaries’ Hall under Dr Alexander Russell, but was sold to the Bank of Victoria for the then large sum of £3000. The bank built the two-storeyed section at the back, and in 1874 sold the premises to Dr Thomas Scott. It was successively a doctor’s surgery, a cordial factory, and then the local branch of the Colonial Bank from 1876 to 1923. It is now in private hands.
