52. TALARA |
||
The address of Talar is given as ‘Yambuk’ Road, but it faces onto the main highway, as declared by the signpost. It was built in 1857 as a home for Dilmond John Howes, the first Secretary and Surveyor of the Belfast District Roads Board (1853), and subsequently Secretary and Engineer of the Shire of Belfast. It was built from an architect’s plan, and the rosewood staircase, the pinnacles, and the fretted bargeboards were sent from England. |
