9. POST OFFICE |
||
The foundation stone was laid in 1880 by the then minister for Public Works, Sir Thomas Brent. This building which cost £4200 to erect, was opened in 1881 after the Post Office had outgrown its two previous premises. The building underwent extensive renovation and restoration in 1981. This is a building with some style. I am always interested in the design of the chimneys of these old buildings. The building is currently (2012) in use as an apartment. There appear to be some date discrepancies in the advertisement. |
