Corner Sackville and Cox Streets

Seacombe House/Stag Hotel/Stag Inn was started by Captain John Sanders in 1847. In the 1850s when Mr Abijah Brown was the proprietor, it was the town’s social centre. It continued as a hotel until 1873 when it became school, and ultimately a guest house.

The two cottages to the south (see #7) now form part of the Seacombe complex.

The crest on the corner façade now proudly displays the hotel’s early date.
