29. GIPPS STREET COTTAGES |
||
Records show that these three cottages were originally part of the Atkinson Survey, the lessee being ‘Henty’. Early photographs show that there were originally four cottages: two pairs with central joining chimneys. It is not known exactly when they were erected, but research has shown that four wooden houses were transported to Belfast (Port Fairy) aboard the ‘Manchester’ on her first voyage in 1853. It is presumed that these were the cottages, being some of the earliest prefabricated buildings in the town. Some closer detail can be seen here of Number 61 and Number 63.
